2023 highlights and member happenings

Thirty years of F.I.S.T.

Our parade FIST went on display at the Leather Archives & Museum. The club celebrated its history, welcomed community stories and marked three decades of education, service, friendship and fun.

Pledge class milestone: At the August 16 online meeting, F.I.S.T. inducted its newest pledge class. Congratulations to everyone who joined the class.

F.I.S.T. Leather Quilt milestone

At SouthEast LeatherFest 2023, F.I.S.T. placed its patch on the Leather Quilt as the quilt’s 200th square.

The quilt panel was originally purchased from Dave of Leather Masters in December 2015. Nancy Thompson of Lifestyle Sewing added the F.I.S.T. patch to the panel. At SouthEast LeatherFest 2023, a contingent of F.I.S.T. members and supporters gathered to add the panel to the quilt in celebration of the club’s 30th year.

The panel carries F.I.S.T.’s original backpatch with the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. location indicator. The club has since opened membership to the entire country. F.I.S.T. began in 1993 as a direct result of the March on Washington for Gay and Lesbian Rights, when a small group of leatherwomen recognized the need for a women’s leather/BDSM educational and social backpatch club in the region. That need still exists.

Thank you to Lady Catherine and Jack for completing this project after it had stalled in 2013.

Member happening: Scarlett

Full-patch member Scarlett successfully ran for Ms. SouthEast LeatherFest in Atlanta. She traveled during her title year, represented the community and connected with people across the region. F.I.S.T. congratulated her and wished her a strong title year.
